Erin grew up in Los Angeles spending as much time as possible in the water, from Southern California beaches to endless swimming pools. To gain a deeper understanding of how to effectively manage our ocean resources, she studied marine affairs and ecosystem science and policy at the University of Miami. After graduating, she came back to California to attend graduate school at UCSB’s Bren School of Environmental Science & Management where she studied coastal management and strategic communications. Her master's thesis research focused on ecosystem health and effective public engagement strategies for large-scale marine reserves in the Pacific. With her interest in the role effective communication plays in connecting science and policy to sustainably manage our oceans, Erin worked for the Ocean Health Index as their Communications Coordinator, sharing stories of OHI’s impact with various audiences. As the emLab Projects and Operations Coordinator, she is responsible for leading emLab's communications strategy, providing project management support to research teams, and strengthening emLab's partnerships with foundations, government groups, NGO's, and other academic institutions.
