Danielle developed an interest in the marine environment while completing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science at the University of Delaware. In the months following, she worked aboard the exploration vessels E/V Okeanos and E/V Nautilus as a part of their multibeam mapping and remotely operated vehicle teams. She then returned to the University of Delaware to pursue a Master’s degree in Oceanography, estimating incidental mortality in the Atlantic sea scallop fishery with optical autonomous underwater vehicle surveys. She also supported a number of habitat mapping projects deploying shipboard, remotely operated, or autonomous acoustic mapping systems. Danielle’s research after school continued to focus on the sea scallop fishery, this time developing an object detection algorithm for scallops in seafloor images. Generally, her professional interests are in ocean conservation, sustainable fisheries, data science, and ocean exploration. At SFG, Danielle’s role is to investigate the potential conservation implications of cell-based seafood.
