Gavin began his career as a mechanical engineer and holds both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech, along with a Master Professionnel from École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers (ENSAM) in Metz, France. After three years working as a Research Engineer at the satellite research and development company Busek, he decided to go back to school to follow his lifelong passion for coastal marine conservation. Gavin received a Master of Environmental Science and Management from the Bren School in 2013, and his interest lies in using science and technology to improve fisheries management for the benefit of both conservation and for the livelihoods of fishers. Since graduating from Bren, he has worked at SFG as a Project Researcher on topics including bioeconomic fisheries forecasting modeling, small-scale fisheries assessment and management, program impact evaluation, and leveraging big data and machine learning to address global fisheries challenges. Gavin is a PADI Divemaster and AAUS Scientific Diver, and is also an avid cyclist, trail runner, and backpacker.
